MFA in Writing for Children

In July, 2010, I graduated with an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. While there, I read a million books aimed at young people, and honed my narrative writing skills. I won the Critical Thesis prize, for "Escape From Silence: Building Truth and Meaning with the Narrative Voice" (download here). My graduate lecture was on the perils and possibilities of keeping the parents in a middle grade novel (instead of killing them off).
